Some of us on the recently activated "Goa Wikipedia Group" (an informal network via WhatsApp) are hosting a Goa Mini Edit-a-Thon on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Krishnadas Shama Central Library cybersection (first floor) at Pato, Panjim, Goa. Everyone interested is cordially invited.
The intention is to (i) promote more Goa-related content on the Wikipedias (all languages and scripts) (ii) promote Konkani and translations specially on the Konkani Wikipedia (iii) build closer networking and eventually a wider community of Wikipedia contributors, editors and supporters in Goa.
Isidore Dantas, lexicographer and translator from Pune, is visiting Goa and we expect to have him with us for part of the evening.
You are welcome to drop in at any stage, though obviously the more time you could give it, the better.
There will be no formal talks or discussions, but just hands-on contribution to the creation of new Wikipedia pages, adding content where needed to existing pages, and translating pages from say English (or any other language) to Konkani where suitable.
What you could do to contribute (whether you can attend or not)ː
(i) Create a Wikipedia login for the Konkani (httpː//gom.wikipedia.org), English (httpː//en.wikipedia.org) or any other language you are skilled in.
(ii) Bring photos on a pen drive which you are willing to upload and share with the Wikimedia Commons, specially Goa-related photos. (You will be agreeing to share it under a Creative Commons or such license.)
(iii) Plan the pages which you would like to work on -- create from scratch, add to, translate.
(iv) If you have only tech skills but no language skills (in any language you wish to contribute to), then please try to link up with someone who has the talent to complement and supplement your own.
(v) Even if you can't make it for the event, you could do all of the above. We will try -- bandwidth permitting -- to have some form of live video reporting from there.
(vi) Bandwidth costs a reasonable Rs 20 per hour; if you can sponsor the work of any other editor, please consider. Also, feel free to bring along any healthy snacks to be shared at a designated space and keep spirits high.
We are determined to get this going, even if we have two or three persons meeting up.
Please volunteer to act as the 'team leader' to create (or build up) a page on a village or urban area you are associated with. Bring along some photos of the place, we can work it out.
